IAM Christ-Minded

IAM Christ-Minded

phil-21-2

Philippians 2:1-5 NLT Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

It may not be a real word that you can use in scrabble for major points, but the idea is right on.  IAM Christ-Minded

I am encouraged, motivated and pushed everyday to take on the mind of Christ.  That is my heart’s desire.  That my heartbeat and soul would pulse and have the same rhythm as God’s.

That mind of Christ is to be humble.  To be more concerned about the needs and interests of others

Brain, Mind, soul, heart… all of those parts are different things going on inside me. When I think about what moves me and drives me. I can’t separate any of them, into easy compartments.  It’s kind of messy, and all of those parts of our being are being transformed to be more like Jesus if we choose and desire it.

When we belong to Christ, there are a couple encouragements that come from that.

  1. Comfort from his Love
  2. Fellowshipping in the Spirit
  3. Tenderness and Compassion of heart

I am so thankful to be a part of a community that agrees wholeheartedly with each other and what God wants.  I see and receive that daily.  I know that I am loved, and I love others and it nourishes my soul.  And we are moving towards big time dreams with one mind and purpose.  When a community is wholeheartedly living and interacting with these attitudes of Christ, then it’s amazing to see the unity of Love and purpose.

I have one mind. I have one purpose. To share the Love of Jesus with as many people as possible

IAM Marvelous

Psalms 139:14 NKJV I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

There are some people that might be a little too caught up with themselves.
But I truly believe many are not able to look in the mirror and proclaim these truths out loud.

Can you see the beauty that God has put inside of you?
Can you look into the mirror and smile?
Can you quiet the lies of the world?
Can you quiet the lies of an angry parent?
Can you shut out the lies of unsupportive family members?

DSC_5510

Too many people are not happy with that they see in the mirror. Achievers are not happy with the results in their lives. That’s not our identity!  It’s not what defines you!

When our self image is poor, and borderline self hatred, then we are left in our pity party. We aren’t loving others, because we can’t even love ourselves. We are hating on ourselves and hating on our creator. And we are just stuck in a place, doing nothing.  Exactly where the destroyer of lives wants you to be.

That’s why we must bulletproof our minds and spirit against any lies.

When our plans to do something don’t exactly work out the way we thought… we can’t let that define us. When someone is hateful or angry towards us, we have to learn how to understand it’s the hurt and anger inside of them that makes them lash out and want to bring me down.  But it’s not a reflection on the fearfully and wonderfully made person that stands before God!

I pray that your SOUL knows this very very very well. God is our creator, he has given us his DNA, he has given us his breath.

God made you fearfully and wonderfully
God’s work to create you, and his continuous work in you daily , is MARVELOUS!

What is our true identity, and who you say you are. In your proclamations of ‘IAM!” Are rooted in the beauty and masterpiece of God, then it’s not vain conceit.

Then after you have pumped yourself up in the mirror, and you can smile and stare at yourself.schermata-2014-05-05-a-11.36.39vd-9805_0x440

Then open your eyes to the beauty of God’s creation in your fellow man.

Humility is having a proper view of ourselves. Not boastful. But also not the pride of the worm.   Don’t put yourself down either.

And if that’s a bad habit for you, then it’s going to take over 21 days of mental conditioning and spiritual healing to fix it.  But it’s not impossible!

The healthy balance is right in the center of God’s truth today. Write it out, say it loud, but fill your heart and mind with the truth.

Really!  Get a journal, and write the truth about your greatness

There’s no room for the lies of the enemy to freeze you and push you back

IAM Resolute

Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

a.baa-Hebrews-121-2-verse

The definition of: Resolute: admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering
Whether we are in a sprint or in a long distance run… any extra weight is not good.  Extra mental burdens that cloud our thinking or totally preoccupy our brain time.

And even if our setup is perfect, and we are ready, one loose shoelace could easy knock us to the ground.  Let’s do a prerace checkup and make sure we don’t have any loose ends that could potentially trip us up

The word calls this life a race and that imagery is good.  Because every race has a couple things

1. A planned course that we can follow.  That plan God has placed before you.  Life this life is a crazy scavenger hunt with a moving target and no ending.
2. Races have a champion:  Jesus is our champion. He lived this life, the same way as us.  He had  mom, dad, brothers, sisters, went to school.  Dealt with drama, people trying to accuse him of things he didn’t do, people gossiping about him.   And he was perfect in his life as the model for us.
3. At the end of every race, there is celebration party!  Our celebration awaits us in heaven with the other champions who have run before us. Living faithfully for God.

DAV_5453

Jesus kept on running the race because of the Joy that was awaiting him.  He went through the painful parts and shame for us.  Because he knew the outcome. And like a world record holder that will never be wiped from the books: Jesus will always be remembered

Right now, I can say, things aren’t perfect, and the path can seem cloudy. But close your eyes and imagine what it’s going to be like in heaven!

This is my favorite part of Amazing Grace:

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

10,000 years of worshipping and enjoying heaven is going to be like the first day we got there!

Friend, fellow runner, faithful warrior:  It may be a little tough right now, but there’s a beautiful end goal!
And I don’t want to be there alone, I hope we can usher in as many across that finish line as possible.

Until my legs give out

Until the wheels fall off the cart
Until I wear our my knees in battle.
Let’s keep on running with resolution for the final goal!

IAM a witness to the life of faith.
IAM called to testify about the life of faith through Christ Jesus
And I must carry out that calling with resolution and endurance

IAM a Conqueror

ECCLESIASTES 4:9-12 NLT Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Lies that creep in on our darkest days: You are alone!  No one would ever understand what a horrible person you are! If everyone knew your secrets, you would not be loved! No one cares about you and your struggles!  You are a bad son, daughter, mother, father, or friend. You don’t have anything of worth or value to offer to the group.

ALL LIES! That’s what they are.

You can’t just work out your problems by yourself.  Someone needs to hold the flashlight of truth for you, and then someone else needs to pray for you and hold you up.

Genesis 2:18 “18 Then the lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”

That ain’t right! We aren’t meant to lone wolves. That’s not how we are designed.

Understand the power in fellowship and supporting each other, and make sure you can’t get cornered and sneak attacked because you are alone! It’s not good to fall alone, its real trouble. Stand back to back and CONQUER.

Insert your name here.  🙂

p8119420_b_h3_aa

Conquer!  Defeat, kill it, push it back, and make sure it never comes back! The word didn’t say survive for another day of suffering!  It says conquer.

Do you want to experience victory in your life? Then you can’t do it alone

I encourage you to be more involved with your church, life groups, teams, service.

IAM A Paradox

1 Corinthians 1:18 NLT The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

dfg-1

“A paradox is a statement that doesn’t seem to make sense; but when understood, makes a lot of sense. In fact, a paradox says something that couldn’t be said as well any other way.” George Durham.

More than just being quirky or eccentric, I wonder if people see my life and think that something isn’t right with that person.   In some ways, if we are really doing what God wants us to do, our actions may set off a lot of head scratching.

Many heroes of our faith did some crazy stuff at first glance.

I am not trading in my slim jeans and white belt for burlap and leather sandals.  But, am I fitting in with the ways of this world?  Or am I sticking firm to the standards of our Lord?   And why am I holding firm to those standards?  For the sake of just being right or for the purpose of living in the power of God to be able to help others see the gospel?

From 1 Corinthians 18 to 13 , it’s chock full of wisdom and power!

And as we look in any of the accounts of Jesus, it seemed as he was Mr. Opposite!  Eating dinner with sinners and tax collectors, hiring fisherman to be his disciples, associating and speaking to Samaritan women.

Verse 25 bring some power, if you are willing to hear it: 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

The greatest, smartest, coolest, most intelligent plan I could ever come up with to do anything, is absolute horse dung compared to what God has cooked up!

The world’s strongest man, is a puny wimp compared to the God’s weakness!

6059681560_82906ce5d4_z

Am I living the paradoxical life of Christ?  I know the only way I can do that is if I continue to spend time with God, and being transformed into his image.  As more and more of my life is changed into Christlikeness, then God’s wisdom and ways start to dominate everything I do.

When I see the panhandler on the street, do  I think, I can’t spare change for you, because I know it’s going straight to your drug and alcohol fund? Or can I start to gain the mind and heart of Christ and bring the real power for transformation of someone else’s heart by being the hand of mercy?

As a father of 2 independent wonderful children, I have learned one thing.  No one can change the mind of another person.  No power or strength can get a 6 year old to eat her vegetables!  Only when they decide it’s good for them.  And they see the good in that choice.

The same with the people in your life that don’t know God (yet!).  Only God can speak to their heart and mind.  We can only do our best to be a reflection of the life and love of Christ to them.  Trust me, they are watching us.  But it’s the power of the Cross that breaks through their reasoning.  And we pray and beg God to audibly speak to them and make it undeniable that He loves them and wants them!

When I am tempted to use the world’s ways to solve a problem, I ask God to give me the strength to get on my knees and pray for kingdom wisdom.  To show me the way of the cross which is most powerful.

plans-for-your-life-jeremiah-29-11

JEREMIAH 29:11-13 NLT For I know the plans I have for you,” says the lord . “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

Do you believe you have a destiny for greatness?

My definition for greatness:  Serving the needs of the many.

God created you for a specific purpose!  You have a unique personality and character that is necessary for God’s purposes

God has an amazing plan for my life and yours.
None of those plans involve disaster.  That’s good right?

God knows the plans he has for us.  God’s wisdom and plans are too complex for me to understand.  He doesn’t do things the way the world expects.   People wanted a military king, but he sent the Prince of Peace: Jesus

God’s plan is to give us a future and a hope.
To give us positive expectations for a better life.
To give us hope that life is going to be abundant.

I don’t see anything in here about life being a cruel joke.

I don’t see anything about life being 6 days of suffering for a couple moments of pleasure.
I don’t see anything in the bible about murphy’s law.
But somehow these attitudes and mindsets have invaded our society and thinking
Let’s remove these lies from our thinking and embrace the truth in our identity and our God.

As God’s people, we have an amazing future, hope and destiny for greatness.  We may not know how everything will play out, but God makes it very clear how we can stay on that path to greatness

Pray, and look for God wholeheartedly.  Then we will find God.
Promise: you WILL FIND ME.
Promise: When you pray, I WILL LISTEN!
Promise:  If we look for God wholeheartedly,  WE WILL FIND HIM!

Wholeheartedly means searching for God like we are searching for a missing child!  A manhunt.

Did you ever turn over your whole house just to look for one missing thing? Let’s have that same posture and aggression when its comes to looking for God.

Let’s proclaim the truth!

IAM Destined for Greatness
IAM Hopeful for the Future
When I Pray, God will Listen
When I seek wholeheartedly, I Will Find Him

IAM a Reader of Instructions

PSALMS 19:7-10 NLT
The instructions of the lord are perfect, reviving the soul.
The decrees of the lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
The commandments of the lord are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the lord are clear,
giving insight for living.
Reverence for the lord is pure, lasting forever.
The laws of the lord are true; each one is fair.
They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.

Read the instruction manual is a common reply in the tech support world.  Appropriate to solve 99% of the problems encountered.

Funny how it applies to our lives as well.

I am truly convinced that the answers to all of our problems are already written down in the Holy Bible.

psalm-19-7

The instructions are perfect, and they revive the soul.
Just the concept that reading a book can revive our souls can seem pretty abstract, until the scripture lights up with stories of miracles of healing.  When I read how the heroes of faith were filled with the spirit of God, and then went out and defeated thousands upon thousand.
Or when I read about the heroes of our faith spoke the good news about God with power and grace.  Then I am motivated and revived in my soul.

All the wisdom to handle people, situations, drama, business and family is already written in the bible.
But maybe we read it , and we don’t want to listen to what it says.

Are you lacking true Joy in your heart? Maybe it’s time to ask God which commandments we aren’t paying close attention to.

Everyday as I read the word, something new and fresh clearly speaks to me.  I love how that word is perfect for my current situation in life.
The word gives insight for my life, how to handle all situations

ROM 15:4 NLT Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.

As much as I love the modern conveniences of technology, I think it makes things difficult for us to have a proper kingdom mindset.
We have on demand, instant, same day delivery, drive thru service windows.

Thank God, there are no drive-thru churches. (That I know of, i refuse to even google that keyword)

We all have the same 24 hours in a day. It’s how we use those hours that sets us apart from others.

I wish all prayers were answered the first time we spoke them out.
But, God’s wisdom and timing is perfect.

The roadmap for our lives and the promises of the future is our bible.  Those scriptures give us hope and encouragement.

God is teaching us in his wisdom about how he works.  He sees the master plan, that is way too complex to understand.  But he is weaving a beautiful plan of redemption for our world.

And When his promises are fulfilled, it will be awesome.
I hope and believe for the answers to prayer.
I wait patiently to hear about the amazing miracles that God performs in our midst.

And I let those answers to prayer encourage me to pray even more.  To go deeper on my knees to seek out God’s promises.

IAM A Hero

Jeremiah 22:16 He gave justice and help to the poor and needy, and everything went well for him. Isn’t that what it means to know me?” says the  lord .

I am happy that the definition of a hero has not been watered down. Every Batman, Spiderman and Superman remake is still a blockbuster! Today the same as 2000+ years ago, what it means to be a hero is still the same:

Super Friends!-Truth Justice and Peace

Give justice and help the poor and needy.

We don’t need superhuman strength, x-ray vision or an invisible jet.

Being one who fights for justice can be very daunting.  Political corruption, violence, gangs, apathy and many other things are your foes.  But it burns inside of you, the desire to make things right for those who cannot fight for themselves.

About a year ago, I wrote this down in my journal: “I WANT TO BE A FORCE OF NATURE , (empowered by the Holy Spirit)”

And that weekend, I saw a video at my church about a woman in my church who has made it her life mission to rescue and defend those in the sex  trade and human trafficking.  And in that video, I saw  force of nature.   And I understood, that I can be a modern day hero.

IAM Deep in Thought

Psalms 19:14 NLT May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O  lord , my rock and my redeemer.

When I close my eyes sometimes just to stop and think, many things go through my mind.

And it takes time to slow down everything, and let all the noise of the world fade away.

Sometimes it takes more than 20+ minutes or more to let all the volume die down.

Put the cell phone away, social media way.

And if the moment you close your eyes, all you think about is bills, problems, drama, anger, stress, your to-do list.

Then write them down. And put them aside for later.
It’s not easy, but it is essential to our souls.

Private time with the Lord, is essential to our life.

It could be a prayer walk, it could be a prayer jog, it could be time on public transportation.
One practical tip is to use instrumental music with no words or lyrics to drown out the world.
Resist the urge to sing along

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=christian+meditation+mix

Then you can use a simple tool like  http://www.flvto.com/
To get it onto you music player without incurring data charges.
Don’t ask me about how to use itunes…  bc I don’t know.

Taking time to meditiate on the greatness of God takes time, but it’s worth it. And just like the psalmist encourages us, it reinforces the truth to us. God our Lord is our rock and our redeemer.

Rock:  He is our the foundation for our legs to stand on.   Stable and secure.
Redeemer: He is the one who saves us.  The one who has redeemed us from the prison of sin and death.

Then take the time to go back and slowly read Psalms 19 , or other verses.  It’s deep with truth and wonder.
That kind of depth and power didn’t come from jotting some notes down on a napkin in a rush between running errands
It was inspired by the spirit of God.

And in that depth, we find the peace to be ok with situations

We find the love we need for people in our lives
We find the soul nourishing embrace of God.
We find the power to go out into the world and be his agents of change and life.
